I've been creating art of some kind most of my life and I believe art is intensely personal. Some people are drawn to certain colors or styles. Some are drawn to a particular theme or subject matter. Some people look at a piece and have no idea why they like it, they just do.
There are several definitions of the word “Art,” but one I like the best is as follows: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. I like this definition because it doesn’t restrict “art” to any form or medium, it includes creativity and imagination, and it focuses on beauty and emotional power being what’s appreciated.
What is "beauty?" You’ve probably heard the statement, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” or some version of it. Simply put - beauty exists because someone sees something as beautiful. There are no rules or formula for what is actually “beautiful,” but rather a personal perspective of what one sees as beautiful. (Thank goodness - ha!)
What is a "Heartstring?" By definition, it referrs to the deepest feelings; the strongest affections; such as to tug at one’s heartstrings.
Originally referring to the tendons supposed to support the heart. Now THAT is "emotional power!"
I believe art's beauty is in the eye of its beholder and that art can
evoke deep feelings, emotions, and affections. And I believe if you find beautiful art that tugs at your heartstrings, I believe it’s art worth having!
